Pontypool RFC is pleased to announce that Pontypool Community Council has expanded its corporate relationship with the club for the 2013/2014 season.
 
Under the guidance of its 21 elected members, Pontypool Community Council is responsible for making decisions on community services and activities provided throughout the town of Pontypool. Last season, this included supporting of one of Pontypool RFC’s match day sponsorship packages.
 
This season, Pontypool Community Council will occupy a prominent place on the shorts worn by the Pontypool RFC squad and within the newly launched Match Day Programme at every remaining 2013/2014 fixture, beginning with this weekend’s local derby against Ebbw Vale RFC that will be hosted at Pontypool Park.
 
"Pontypool Community Council is pleased and privileged to be able to sponsor Pontypool RFC for the coming season,” said Cllr Bryn Parker, Press Officer of Pontypool Community Council. “The Community Council members know the club well, its history and past achievements and its prominent standing in the Community. We fully support the club, coaches, players and supporters in their efforts to get back to the highest level of club rugby."
 
Pontypool RFC Corporate Director, Ben Jeffreys said; “We are incredibly grateful to Pontypool Community Council for expanding its relationship with Pontypool RFC this season. Community development is at the forefront of our ambitions in all that we do at the club, and we are confident that this opportunity to work even closer with a body that serves the needs and interests of over 37,000 members of the local community will act as a tremendous asset to the town of Pontypool.”

Pontypool Community Council was formed in 1985 by a statute that determined that Pontypool should have a Community Council. It is one of the largest Community (town) Councils in Wales and serves approximately 37,000 people. The Council is made up of 21 elected members that represent the community on a ward basis. Together with members all the hard work goes to making a difference in the Pontypool community.

About Pontypool RFC

Pontypool RFC was founded in 1868 and was one of the founding members of the Welsh Rugby Union (WRU). In its history, the club has achieved ten Welsh Championship titles, eight Welsh Merit Table titles one WRU Cup title. 43 Welsh international players and 1 English international player have been capped directly from Pontypool RFC, with 11 players going on to represent the British Lions. Today, the club competes in the Swalec Championship.
